Geghuni Chitchyan was born in Leninakan (now Gyumri) on 30.08.1929. She has composed music since her early childhood. At the age of ten she becomes the author of a published song. After finishing the piano and composition classes of the special musical school for gifted children in Yerevan, she continued her studies at the Yerevan State Conservatory at the composition department under the guidance of People’s Artist of the USSR, professor Grigor Yeghiazaryan. In 1953 she graduated from the Yerevan Conservatory and since that period she has combined her creative work with pedagogical. She has founded a class of composition in the children’s music school after Sarajev. Since 1971 she has been working at the Yerevan State Conservatory after Komitas, where she got the title of the Professor in 1990. In 1955 she became a member of the Union of Composers of the USSR (now the Composers Union of Armenia http://www.composers.am).
